Written Upon the Hearts

Authors Notes:
In 1857, the Willies and Martin Handcart Companies left very late in the season to begin their journey to Salt Lake City. They were caught in the high plains of Wyoming during an early winter storm. The people suffered terribly and many died before reaching the Valley. In this piece I have tried to catch the bitter coldness and the fatigue of the women who were pulling a cart up Rocky Ridge.
